I feel I had a great year with my photography. Even before I got my 350D in August. The Kodak DX6490 came up with some good shots. Below are my favourites. Some of these are not on my DeviantART account yet.

A good photo has a good combination of an artistic talent and a good skill in the operations with a fair bit of luck... which being captured into a limited space for the world to look at it's own existence...

My favorites are Irvine Sunset and Over the Top. The think the composition, interesting subject matter, and lighting combined to make these shots stand out. smile.gif Gotta love that pano and those portraits, too.

Thanks man biggrin.gif

Those were the first portraits I'd ever done.
The shot of Nikki was done in terrible lighting conditions, but I tried to make the best of what I had. The EF 50mm f1.8 was really handy, and produced nice depth of field, bringing the face into main focus.
The second shot had better lighting, and it is evident with a better tonal range.
Nikki wants to do more shots in the future, so it's even more chance to improve.

Forgot to add, the reflection in Cold Red Reflections was my car roof laugh.gif People think it is water!

Thanks John, glad you like the portraits! They are certainly daunting. My very first attempt (shots with Nikki) turned out better than I thought. I shot them in colour, and desaturated them. I shot a few in B&W on the 350d, but found that I'd rather have control over colour / BW by digitally processing the RAW files.
I also did that session with B&W film, and those turned out well, with about 50% being acceptable for portfolio use. I was very surprised considering the lighting, background and conditions for shooting. They turned out well I feel, especially for a first attempt.

I'll be adding Nikkis to my deviantart site shortly, same for the Rhinns of Kells day out.

Very nice. Good to see someone who didn't do many portraits have some success. Someone I know asked me to take portrait and "artistic" shots of her. So far I have avoided it because I haven't every really shot people. Ghetto lighting can only get you so far and I don't think they would come out for (something that you use TP with). lol. But I suppose it might work.

Even though portraits are a daunting task, don't be afraid to get some practice in! I've had 2 shoots already with makeshift lighting, or poor lighting and I am certainly learning a lot from it.

I've now uploaded the other 3 photos of Nikki to my DA page cool.gif
