I had to go out and play with my new toy this weekend and ran into the biggest juniper tree I've ever seen. I want your honest opinion on this.

What works? What doesn't?

Is the image compelling to look at, or would you have chosen a more interesting composition? How about tone or contrast? Any thoughts are appreciated.

Interesting pic! It seems kinda bright.

The image is compelling, the composition top notch, I wouldnt change any of it.

As much as I love the contrast in this picture, I wonder if it might be better if the brightness of the foliage was turned down ever so slightly.

The picture has a B&W infrared feel to it.

Well done on a provoking photograph.

Thanks guys.

I can experiment with the white point, but if it goes much lower, the tones become muddy with no true white in the picture. It seems to be a common sentiment so far though, so I'll look into it and maybe post a followup in this thread.

That's good. biggrin.gif This is a full color RGB image taken with a Tiffen 87 IR filter. There's been no post-production work done on the saturation other than a slight warming filter. I've been very impressed with the monotoned images this filter produces. It generates much more of a classic IR look than the Hoya R72 that's so popular right now, IMO.

Have you tried using the magic brush in photoshop to select the foliage and then soooo slighty turn down the contrast and/r brightness?

Ultimately make a print and see how it looks yourself, everyones monitor is different and what might appear too bight to some maybe perfect on yours.

Dont be too concerned though....it is still a cool pic.

I had a little trouble finding the people in the picture. But the black sky is interesting.

D70s? Wow. That is a nice toy.

There I go assuming all of you are telepathic again. I was referring to my new IR filter. I've had the D70s for almost a year now. wink.gif

Oh! Well it's still an awesome camera. What's an IR Filter? Infrared?

I love the concept and composition. I would turn down the intensity a bit, and would look into removing some of the noise in the sky above the clouds. A median filter in that region would help. Repost if you get a chance to work on it some more.
Getting into the histogram and playing with only certain levels (i.e. compressing only a certain range of intensities as opposed to scaling all intensities) might help with the tones getting muddy.

I'm going to have to get me one of those Tiffen IR filters. I love the effect.
