Sempervivum means "alway living" or "eternally alive", they are a very hardy species of plants from the Mediteranean and many are cultivated for gardening - by now more than 3000 different cultivations are known (from 60 base forms).
The ancient Romans already cultivated them and called one of them after their god father Jupiter: Jovibarba (beard of Jupiter).

As there are so many different kinds it is hard to determine which one ran across my lens smile.gif to my best estimate I have photographed Sempervivum atlanticum or maybe Sempervivum heuffelii (but that one is supposed to be quite rare as it is very slowly growing).

Anyway, it was a beautiful bowl full of Sempervivum plants in a great light and I simply couldn't do anything else but take a photo of it. Hope you like it as well.
