And now for something completely different....

for me anyway. I normally will avoid creepy-crawlies at all cost... but when this built a web in one of my bushes I thought I should get a shot of it... The leg-span on this thing from the back legs to the front is about 4 inches... she is a pretty good length.

Interesting facts I learned online...
This is a good garden spider, eats all sorts of bad insects, and will stay one one web until it is beyond all repair. Once a web has been damaged beyond repair the spider will eat the remaining silk to recycle it and spin a new one. (All the things you never wanted to know about spiders)

Anyone else think the grey head looks like a skull?

The spider looks great, but that yellow box with the spider's name is (imho) horribly out of place, it clashes too much with the surroundings... Maybe just the name (in yellow?) would be better.

I was checking the spider out this morning during my weekly yardwork and that thing, the body of it, it getting bigger!!! eek! ohmy.gif
