or rather one of the lakes... lol. Went for a rather long hike to a remote area saturday. This is one of the many shots. This was with a 10mm lens I borrowed from another guy that was in the group. The resize causes a loss of impact, as does the 180 degree view. Doesn't really show how massive the cliffs are, I am guessing from barrel distortion. But 28mm was too narrow (not to mention I kinda dropped that lens on a rock and it rolled into the river this trip and didn't wanna have worthless shots if it got messed up. Seems ok though... lol). Anyways, unbordered, not really fixed up shot. Gonna get a wider angle lens than my 28 and maybe make this trip again in a few weeks. Any PP tips for this are welcome, as are critiques. Very odd to shoot with such a wide lens.

When you go back I would love to see several frames stitched together with autostitch or hugin. I have been playing with both lately and am getting a fair bit of a thrill with them.

If you want to do landscape, 10mm lenses can be really handy on a Nikon DSLR camera. smile.gif

I like the clouds that you caught in the background. Much better than an empty sky. I think this shot has a lot of potential if you're returning to the location later on down the road. The composition seems pretty solid (though there's always room for experimenting on a second trip) and I like the way you've filled the frame.

Next time try shooting this on a tripod when the sun is low in the sky (if you're so inclined and equipped). Have a polarizer handy, too. wink.gif

Thanks guys.

I wanted to do a few stitches, but since I dropped my main lens for that, I didn't wanna have a bunch of messed up shots. lol. The 10mm is fun, but it loses some of the scale of thing.

If I get back up this year, I might try to camp. 4.6 mile hike one way if you can get up the road. If you have to start at the bottom of the 4X4 road its 8.6 miles one way, so getting to or staying till the sun is low presents a problem. lol

Where in the heck did you shoot this at? It's unfamiliar looking to me. I like it myself, really a quite stunning image

This is at the St. Vrain glaciers. In fact I finally got around to making a long post about the trip on another board complete with pics. Heres the copy/paste of it. lol.

St. Vrain glaciers. Hiked up there few weeks ago. Shots aren't all I wished for, but I had a few things working against me. Was using a cheap lens for a few shots which I dropped on a rock and watched roll into a river... (suprisingly still works), didn't take the time to work on composition, and for some shots was using a 10mm fisheye which is something I have never shot before (borrowed from another guy on the hike). Odd lens.

The hike is long, and not easy. We were lucky and had ATV's to get up the road, cutting the hike to 4.6 miles one way. Without the ATV's you have 8.5 miles of hiking one way. There is about 3000 feet of elevation gain. Three bridgeless river crossings, a few times scrambling over boulder fields, and making your own trail you finally reach the lakes. Insanely beautiful hike. Wildflowers were in bloom (couldn't walk without stepping on them) but the shots just looked like hundreds of colorful dots, so I haven't included any. In fact, out of the 100's of shots, these are the only ones I feel are worthy of posting. Just couldn't capture the immense size and beauty of the place well. Perhaps I will post the others up later if anyone cares to see them, but they are pretty craptacular.

eventually you reach a log jam that forms a nice little lake where people camp. Wish I could have gotten a better angle, but some people had just set up camp and I didn't want a tent in the shot. Kinda bad stitch.

Dunno why I like this shot. Just some cliffs.

and the upper lake, again with the 10mm (swam in this lake for all of 10 seconds... was a WEE bit cold)

God, you people live in some beautiful places. Like them all, even the Cliffs. You gotta do the sleep over thing next time.
